Saddened by the Loss of Chicana Pioneer Gloria Molina
We, the members of Los Lobos, were saddened to learn of the death of Gloria Molina. She was the first Latina in the California Assembly, the L.A. City Council and the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. Those were among her many “firsts” in a long career of public service to the Chicano/Chicana community. She was a giant when it came to supporting the advancement of la raza. Her advocacy for education, economic empowerment and full political participation for her community is legendary. And her support for the arts was equally robust. La Plaza de Cultural y Artes in downtown L.A. would not exist if it weren’t for Gloria Molina’s formidable support and leadership. Los Lobos and many others in the Chicanada owe her a debt of gratitude. And we owe her our respect and love—which we give unreservedly. Que descance en paz, Gloria Molina.
