Louie Perez of Los Lobos Guest Speaker at KPCC’s Crawford Family Forum
In Partnership with KPCC’s Crawford Family Forum, About Productions presents Civil Rights and Go-Go Boots: A Groovy Evening of Theater, Live Music, and Chicano History
Join our Community Forum as we explore the Chicano Movement, East LA, and L.A. pop culture of the late 60s including theatrical excerpts and live music from Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe.
Forum participants include Louie Perez, Los Lobos musician/songwriter, and co-writer of About Productions’ Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe. Evangeline co-writers Theresa Chavez and Rose Portillo will also participate along with a panel moderated by KPCC’s Adolfo Guzman-Lopez. Panelists include professors Josh Kun, Alma Martinez and Victor Viesca.
Excerpts from Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe will be followed by panel comments and a public talk-back. Set to premiere in 2012, the project, set in the late 60s, features the songbook of David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos. Quetzal Flores has re-imagined the Los Lobos material for Evangeline, and will provide musical direction for the Forum’s live music.
