Arizona Daily Star – Honorable mention for Tucson

Tucson makes a cameo in Los Lobos’ upcoming release, “The Town and the City.”
It’s quick and you might miss it if you aren’t paying close attention.
But it is there.

“Got to Tucson in the dark / Keeping eye out for the law / 500 miles or more from a broken heart,” sings David Hidalgo on the mournful track “The Road to Gila Bend,” which documents the border-crossing experience.

The song also references our Arizona neighbor to the south, Nogales.

Of course, the honorable mention isn’t the only reason to purchase “The Town and the City,” especially for fans of Los Lobos’ eclectic sound.

The album twists and turns through straight East L.A. rock (“The Valley”), festive cumbias (“Chuco’s Cumbia”) and rough-and-tumble roadhouse blues (“Two Dogs and a Bone”) with ease.

An entertaining listen, even without the Tucson cameo.
