Pioneer Press – Preview of show

Friday-Saturday: Yes, this eclectic Los Angeles ensemble has put out some great albums over the years (“How Will the Wolf Survive?”

“Kiko,” “Good Morning Aztlan”), but they’ve always been one of those bands that’s immeasurably better in concert. If Los Lobos has ever put on a show anything short of excellent on its many Twin Cities visits, we haven’t heard about it. And the amphitheater at the Zoo has emerged as a favorite venue for them, one where they tend to really cut loose, perhaps in tribute to the nearby Mexican wolves that share their moniker. Since they’re playing two nights there, it’s a good possibility the two set lists won’t share too many common tunes. 7:30 p.m.; Weesner Family Amphitheater, Minnesota Zoo, 13000 Zoo Blvd., Apple Valley; $30; 651-989-5151.
