Los Lobos surveys immigrant experience in ‘Town’

NEW YORK (Billboard) – Veteran Latin rock quintet Los Lobos has set a September 12 release date for its latest collection, “The Town and the City,” a 13-track disc chronicling the immigrant experience in America, according to the band.
Selections from the album, issued via Mammoth/Hollywood Records, include “The Valley,” “Chuco’s Cumbia” and “The Road to Gila Bend,” a story about an immigrant fugitive. Several tracks are in consideration for the lead single.
“Right now, when the world is in this incredible state of flux, it’s impossible for this not to affect your work,” says Louis Perez, who co-wrote the bulk of the album with fellow band member David Hidalgo. “As artists we take our experience and put it into painting, stories or songs.”
The new offering was produced by the band and mixed by their frequent contributor Tchad Blake, a former member of the foursome Latin Playboys, which also featured Perez and Hidalgo.
Los Lobos’ last studio album, 2004’s “The Ride,” has sold 120,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The band will support “The Town And The City” on a tour later this year.
